Health & Safety

Student obligations:

At the Chinese Kung Fu Academy, Health and safety has the highest priority. Each of us has a legal and moral obligation to look after the welfare and safety of our 'family' members, guests and visitors. A SAFER Academy is a better place for everyone.

  • S Students taking part in any of the CKFA's
  • A Activities, or who use any of the CKFA's
  • F Facilities are
  • E Expected to act in accordance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations and be
  • R Responsible for reporting any risks or hazards that may adversely affect the CKFA's legal obligations immediately.

As a member of our organisation you must comply with all obligations and safety requirements as they are laid out in the Workplace Health & Safety Regulations Act 1997, the relevant Codes of Practise, and the Chinese Kung Fu Academy's Code of Conduct.

Although this as a summary may seem quite overwhelming, a lot of the rules make common sense. As long as you are alert, aware, read our Code of Conduct, listen to your instructors, and report any risks or hazards that you may encounter, you should have no problems with these guidelines.

Your main Health and Safety obligations are:

  1. Read, and act in accordance with, the Chinese Kung Fu Academy's Code of Conduct.
  2. Listen to your Sifu and your Instructors, and follow their advise.
  3. Inform your instructor of any injury or medical condition, either permanent or temporary, which may have an effect on, or may be affected by, the intended training.
  4. Do not train if you are suffering from the flu or any other infectious diseases that may be passed on to others.
  5. Do not attend training when under the influence of alcohol or any other illegal drug.
  6. Do not smoke in or around any of the CKFA's premises.
  7. Pay attention to personal hygiene. Before entering a training hall ensure that you are clean and properly groomed. Your nails should be trimmed to an acceptable length.
  8. Remove excessive perspiration with a towel.
  9. Do not wear watches, rings or other jewelry during training.
  10. When bleeding: Stop training immediately! Seek appropriate first aid and ask your instructor for permission before continuing your training.
  11. Do not share personal equipment like training gloves, mouth guards, and the like.
  12. Do not use any weapons in or around the training area without the permission of your Sifu or Instructor.
  13. Warm up before starting to exercise and make sure you remain hydrated.
  14. Refrain from making offensive jokes, sexually suggestive comments, or any other inappropriate remarks and or language on the CKFA's premises.
  15. Do not intimidate, 'show off', be aggressive, or exhibit any other inappropriate form of behavior at any time.
  16. During training: Always listen and pay attention.
  17. Know where the fire equipment is and where the fire exits are.
  18. Know the location of the First Aid Kit.
  19. Be alert at all times.
  20. ALWAYS notify your Sifu or Instructor immediately of anything out of the ordinary that may cause a potential hazard or risk to the Health and Safety of yourself or others.

To increase the Health and Safety at our school, please bring the following items to your training sessions:

  • Personal water bottle
  • Towel to remove perspiration
  • Personal focus mits, training gloves or pads
  • Personal mouth / groin guards (if required)
  • Any other items (e.g. spare shirt) that may assist in maintaining proper hygiene.
